The Sound Summit: LA and AES Convention

Stickman took a field trip!

Fernando was invited to The Sound Summit: LA to demonstrate how he uses Lectrosonics and Sound Devices equipment.  In typical Stickman fashion we showed up with a lot of gear.  We like to be prepared!  Marcus and I joined him and, for me, it was great to be out of the office and meet everyone.  It was a wonderful experience and we are really hoping they will invite us back for another one.  Did anyone else attend The Sound Summit?  We think they need to do one here in Vegas around NAB time.

We took some time to enjoy an afternoon of sight seeing.  We  went to Santa Monica Pier, walked around a bit and watched the sun set.  We even made sure to get some ice cream.  Toes in the sand and everything.

Friday was time for the 137th International AES Convention.  We got to see some friends that we only seem to run into at conventions.  Fernando played with every console in the building.  It was a bit smaller than we thought it would be, but it was still a lot of fun.  Playing with gear is always a good time.

We all arrived home in one piece and we’re all still friends after rooming together in a house for a week.  Fernando was able to spend a little time back in Vegas before going back to LA for a few more weeks of work.  Marcus and I are back to our regularly scheduled work, which honestly, isn’t regular or very well scheduled!  One of the many reasons we love our jobs.

For everyone working and/or attending the Life is Beautiful Festival next weekend we hope you have fun!  We know a lot of people that are doing both and it should be awesome.

Hello All!  Thought I should take a minute and make sure everyone is surviving summer.  We haven’t melted yet, but there have been a few close calls.  I never did find a pool to use as an office.  Maybe next year!

The store keeps getting new merchandise.  We recently received our order of Pro-Gaff Tape,  Overcovers and Undercovers.  We are waiting for the other half of our order that contains windscreens and mic flags from Rycote.   Fernando has been doing a great job of taking pictures and posting them on our social media.  If you are looking for expendables, please check out our store front!

We lucked out this summer with our interns.  We’ve had a couple of great guys come through our shop and spend time with us.  We’ve also had some great clients willing to give them a shot and thankfully it has all worked out.  Craig has been A2’ing on TUF with Fernando and John has been going out on some interview shoots.  We’d love to pat ourselves on the back for helping them jump into the field, but it’s really all them.  They have put in the time and effort to show up and learn

Fernando recently joined IATSE Local 695 so he is available for union shoots without a hassle now.  It was something he had been meaning to do for awhile and we finally got the paperwork filed.  He is about to renew is FCC paperwork also.  So much paper, so little interest in filing it all out.

Ebay made it possible to clear out some inventory so we could add a few new items.  Our most recent additions are these Ambient Tiny Lockit Boxes.  They have been working since they landed!

The wish list never seems to get any smaller.  Keep an eye on our Ebay store for some more equipment that needs a new home.  We have a couple of 552’s we will be selling and I think I heard that we might be putting some Zaxcom items up soon.  If you have any questions about our used gear, please contact us.

We’ve made it to May!  It’s been difficult to stay at work with the weather being so nice.  If I can figure out how to do my job in the pool this summer I’ll make sure to post pictures.  First step is to find a pool.

Marcus and I made to NAB last month for about a half day.  Fernando was working in California during that week so he wasn’t able to make it.   Not nearly enough time to see all the goodies and say hello to all the people.  It was my first time there and I was overwhelmed by it all!  Next year I will be blocking off more time to go.

Some of gear just returned from working on a local feature.  We are hoping it doesn’t get too much of an ego as it returns to the shop.  Fernando was able to go fill in a couple of days and he had a lot of fun.

The eBay store is up and running.  We made our first sale and currently have a few more things listed.  Marcus and Fernando are starting to go through the warehouse shelves as they figure out how to make room for the wish list.  If you or someone you know is looking for some well-maintained equipment please check it out.

The shop has been in full on prep to load another season of fighter.  Craig has been working his fingers raw making cables and Todd was assigned necklace duty.  The guys were amazing and the effort they put into their work really shows in the finished product.  I had 411 programming duty, but that’s mostly because no one else wants to do it.  I go into my office, put on a movie and have a paperwork free day.  There’s a reason I volunteer for it.

Here’s a picture of some kit prepping for TUF.  Those 411’s and I are BFFs!

Here’s one from when the guys were setting up and testing the rack systems for TUF.

Hope everyone is doing well and hydrating for summer!
