March 2017 Newsletter

Stickman. Sound. Gets. Lucky.

Now that Valentine’s Month is over, we can all start trading candy hearts for green beer! We hope everyone gets a little Luck ‘o the Irish and has a work filled month.

Fernando spent a week at his alma mater, Full Sail University this past month. The stars aligned and he couldn’t think of better way to celebrate his birthday than by attending the Eighth Annual Hall of Fame.  Past and present inductees spend time with students doing workshops and panels to help prepare them for the world after graduation and beyond.  It gives the students a special opportunity to network with some of the best people in their fields and it gives the graduates a chance to catch up and remember where they started.  Full Sail’s philosophy centers on recognizing the value in creative thinking and the importance of hands on experience and that is something Fernando has kept near to him. Check out the video we have linked below to learn more about HOF week at Full Sail. We hope you all enjoy the rest of March and we look forward to sharing more Stickman shenanigans next month!

We are selling all of our Block 26 Rev. A VRTs on Ebay! Check them out and let us know if you have any questions.

How Education Is Important To Stickman Sound!

Stickman Sound believes in the power of knowledge and is proud to sponsor the John Morris Technical Theatre Scholarship at The Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts and a Graduate Scholarship at Full Sail University.

We also have an open door policy at the shop. Stickman invites freelancers, new and seasoned, to stop in and play with our gear. We encourage hands on learning so they can stay up to date and hone their craft. It’s always nice to see a group of gear geeks together coming up with solutions and new ways to do things.

Keep an eye on our facebook page for live “how to” videos where you can ask questions and get real time answers. We will post the videos here, but you can get faster answers by tuning in live. We are working on getting videos together for YouTube, but trying to schedule everyone in the same room at the same time for more than 5 minutes is more difficult that it should be! (Have you hugged your Production Coordinator today?)

Under the Education tab we have listed manuals to some of our most popular equipment. The reading is a little dry, but very educational! Stayed tuned to the newsletter as we will be sure to make a big deal of things as we get them going.

Stickman Goes LIVE …

The New Year started off with a bang here at Stickman! CES rolled through Vegas like a tidal wave sweeping up most of our gear and mixers. This year we had a client request 100 IFB’s for a walking tour through the convention.  Yes, you read that correctly, 100 IFB units.  Our warehouse put on their Super Audio Capes and went to work as this was a “no room for error” situation.  Marcus and his team did it!  We posted a bunch of pictures on social media and the constant question was “how many did you get back?”.  We are proud to say we had a 99% return rate.  I’m not sure what the betting pool was, but I lost (I was all in for 100% return!) and I think I owe someone a beer.

Most of you know we have been playing with the Live Facebook thing and it’s been so much fun!  We love to share our knowledge and always look forward to the feedback.  If you, or someone you know, has any questions about gear, programs, microphones, life, the universe, and everything, let us know.  We are on the lookout for new things to post.  Please remember to be kind to whoever draws the short straw and has to hold the camera.  There’s a reason we are Stickman Sound and not Stickman “Shaky Hands” Camera.

Featured Gear : IFBR1a

“Wireless IFB (interruptible fold back) systems are used for talent cueing and crew communications in broadcast and motion picture production. In other cases, the IFB system is used by directors and other management to monitor program audio during a production. The IFB R1a receiver provides simplicity and flexibility in a package that is intuitive for untrained users to operate.”
